The final score suggests we might just be getting somewhere with this team. That said, I would like to start this match report, with a big call out to the opposition. Wilmslow were a team we were always going to beat. Which sounds a tad smug, but nevertheless true. Despite the heavy loss for them, they did not stop, their heads did not drop and they continued to compete. On the opening game of the season we beat them 8-5, today's score line shows the progression within our squad.
Another incredible turn out from this eager squad and a 5-1 score after the 1st quarter allowed for a proper rotation of the bench, and we gave some much needed match time to those newer to the game or those yet to truly find their position.
At half-time, 11-2 and the pattern of the match was pretty much set. We were able to get our defensive shapes improved, used our midi's to support 'D' with opposition attacks and then to spring our own attacks. We also focused on shape and plays for those up front.
We should have scored more and we should have passed better, and we will face stronger opposition, but we can fully enjoy this morning's match...this squad all contributed to the result today, some of those goals were proper team goals and that was perhaps the most pleasing.
The 22 goals scored was shared amongst 10 different players, 3 keepers only allowing 4 goals, 1 Mellor penalty and 2 happy coaches, who will continue to squeeze all the possible potential they can from this squad.
