This was a scrappy match, not one for the purists, but the flashes of quality from the match came from the Muddogs. There's a chance Cheadle/Wilmslow fulfilled their brief, which may have been to spoil and scrap, and they did just that.
Semi-finals often produce tight encounters and the normal fluidity, which we've seen in recent weeks did go missing for large parts of the match. It was however backed up with our ability to scrap, fight and mix it up.
Mellor took command of the 1st quarter, 4-1. A tight 2nd quarter, meant it was 6-1 at halftime. 'Chilmslow' edged the 3rd quarter, but then our quality came back in the 4th, firing in 4 unanswered goals.
A call-out to Hayden today. Often the glory is with the goal scorer, but it's nothing without a keeper who can keep you in a game at pivotal moments. Hayden did that again for us today.
At no point did the nerves really jangle on the side lines and amongst the players, there's one good reason for that. We're a good team.
We now know that our final opponents will be Stockport, who beat Mersey 12-8. It's a repeat of last year's final. Stockport will want revenge. They've beaten us twice this season. What is already a competitive fixture, will be exactly the same again.
Goalscorers today (& I did miss one of our scorers, for our 3rd goal, apologies):
Dima x4; Freddie B x2; Oliver x1; James x1; Hugo x1; Unknown x1
