After the success of the Stockport Sixes, the under 14s picked up the winning habit once more and opened the league season with a convincing 22-4 win.

A fast opening, saw Mellor 4-0 up before the combined force of Mersey & Rochdale got the first of their 4 goals. After that Mellor would go on and score 6 more without reply. 11-2 at half time, time to give the younger under 14s some precious game time.

Matches like these, allow for all the squad to feature and that can only bode well for the season ahead. There may well be tougher games, more physical opponents, but in terms of opening matches, this was ideal. The younger boys all gave decent accounts of themselves growing into the match and taking responsibility for protecting the ball, moving the ball and fighting for....the ball!

It's a rest week next, with some of last years 14s going off to Frankfurt to test themselves against European opposition. We'll train hard and play our next match on the 10th October against Cheadle Hulme (away).
